Common questions
BAS in Adelaide: your questions answered
What's the difference between a BAS and an IAS?
A business activity statement (BAS) is for businesses registered for GST and reports GST along with PAYG withholding and instalments. An instalment activity statement (IAS) is for businesses that aren't registered for GST but need to report PAYG withholding or instalments.
When is my BAS due?
Quarterly statements are generally due on the 28th of the month after the quarter ends, except the October–December quarter, which is due on 28 February. Monthly statements are generally due on the 21st of the following month. Registered agents can often get extra time to lodge through the ATO's lodgement program.
Do I need to register for GST?
You need to register once your GST turnover reaches $75,000 a year, or if you provide taxi or ride-sourcing services. You can also register voluntarily. We can help you work out whether it suits your business and register you.
Can you help with overdue activity statements?
Yes. We'll bring your records up to date, prepare the outstanding statements and lodge them, and help you talk to the ATO about any balance owing.
What's the difference between a BAS agent and a tax agent?
A BAS agent looks after activity statements and BAS matters such as GST and PAYG. A tax agent can also prepare income tax returns and give broader tax advice. We work alongside your tax agent or accountant.
Can you talk to the ATO for me?
Yes. Once you appoint us as your BAS agent, we can deal with the ATO on BAS matters for you, including queries, revisions and payment arrangements.
